Research Data Management

- LIBRARY OF THE FACULTY OF FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS

Here you will find information on requirements, guidelines, data management plans, storage and accessibility of research data.

Research data is the collected material that form the basis for analysis in a project, regardless of the research area, and can consist of analogue or digital information. There is currently a discussion about how the term "research data" can be understood within the artistic field.

Proper management of research data ensures reproducibility, protects research participants' privacy, and meets legal requirements. It prevents data loss and maintains data quality, which is crucial for credible results. Additionally, organized data facilitates potential sharing for future research.

The acronym FAIR stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. This means that research data should be managed in a way that makes them easy to find, access, connect with other datasets, and reuse. Even data that cannot be openly shared can be described and made searchable through various platforms and services for making research data accessible.

A data management plan (DMP) is a document that provides a framework for what to do with the data during and after a research project. Lund University has a data management plan tool, DMP Online, to help you create and update your data management plan.

The legal standpoint for processing personal data in research is almost always that it is of public interest. This means that it is permissible to process personal data if it is necessary for a research project. However, in some cases ethical approval is required, for example if you are processing sensitive personal data.

There are legal requirements that the people whose data you collect must be properly informed about the processing of their data. In addition, personal data must always be stored securely.

All research projects involving personal data must be registered in the system PULU - Personal Data Lund University. You register your research project by logging in to PULU.

Please note that you always need to use a VPN connection to be able to log in to PULU, whether you are on campus or not. To start a connection with VPN, click on the network connections icon in the taskbar of your computer.

The documents generated by research are part of Lund University's public records. It is important for legal, administrative and scientific reasons that the documentation of our research is archived correctly.

Lund University's Staff pages provide information on support and assistance available to researchers regarding requirements and guidelines for the management of research data. You will also find information on data management plans, storage and accessibility of research data.
