The Faculty's research and doctoral studies are conducted at Malmö Academy of Music, Malmö Theatre Academy, Malmö Art Academy and in collaboration with Inter Arts Center.

The faculty conduct research in the subjects fine arts, theatre, music and music education. Through this breadth, we have established ourselves as one of the internationally leading research institutions in the field of fine arts and music education, a position that we want to continue to strengthen and develop. The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts also has collaborations with other arts universities in Sweden with collaborations regarding doctoral education.

Research in fine arts is characterised by a diversity of approaches, theories, methods and collaborators, and an important aim is to further develop and strengthen the overlapping and shared research environment. The specificity of research at the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts is furthermore the mission to develope and emphasize its uniqueness.

Communicating artistic knowledge, which is also an essential task of artistic research, requires specific strategies and methods, partly different for different art forms.
