The open lecture is all about diving into the heart of game design. The following workshop will explore the inner workings of game production and why it matters. Through a series of non-digital exercises, participants will get hands-on experience testing and understanding the fundamentals of game design. These activities are designed to equip you with the tools to analyze and modify games effectively. We'll also touch on the practicalities of games production and let you in on how the games sausage is made.

On day two, participants will delve into Unreal Engine. Working from a prototype provided by us, you'll have the opportunity to apply the techniques and principles discussed on day one. It's a chance to bring your ideas to life and experience firsthand some of the creative possibilities of game design.

Thom Kiraly is a game design educator and workshop facilitator with a BA in Literature, Culture, and Digital Media from BTH Karlskrona and additional studies in games at the ITU master's program in Copenhagen. With a passion for analog as well as digital games, Thom brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the table. Based at Folkhögskolan Skurup och Fridhem in Malmö, he has spent the last six years empowering aspiring game designers to explore their creative potential. He believes in the power of games as a medium for creative expression, social impact, and asking uncomfortable questions.

Pål Schakonat works as an educator at Folkhögskolan Skurup och Fridhem i Malmö and offers a holistic approach to game development. He recognizes the intricate interplay between all its components and their ultimate impact on the end result. Drawing from a diverse background that includes founding his own studio, Golden Possum, and contributing to VR projects at Fast Travel Games, Pål has plenty of industry experience and insights to share.
