All My Relations IV Ecocamp – Nomadic Encounters

All My Relations IV is a three-day intensive workshop that explores the potential of performative and interdisciplinary practices to trigger transformation in human behaviour and ecological awareness. Artists and interdisciplinary researchers interested in existential resilience, more-than-human encounters, and sustainable development are invited to bring their questions to a laboratory designed to connect art, research, and everyday life.

This workshop is organised by Artistic Research (Malmö Theatre Academy, Lund University), Agenda 2030 Graduate School (Lund University), and Gylleboverket, a platform for art and resilience located in the Skånish countryside. It delves into the convergence of interdisciplinary practices and ecological sustainability, rooted in a profound understanding of sensibility, corporality, imagination, being-with, and an exploration towards an extended ecological self.

Participants will embark on a journey where movement itself becomes a central method of inquiry and practice. Walking is not just a means of travel but a vehicle for artistic, ecological, and philosophical exploration. Through the rhythm of footsteps, the act of moving together, and the embodied experience of navigating landscapes, we will uncover new ways of perceiving and relating to the world. Both collaborative and solitary moments on the journey will foster reflection, dialogue, and creative engagement with ecology, interspecies relations, and sustainable futures. 

By walking together, we acknowledge the interconnectedness of all beings and landscapes, deepening our ecological awareness and forging meaningful relationships that extend beyond the human sphere.

Walking as Practice Walking is more than just a mode of transport—it is a way of thinking, perceiving, and relating to the world. Movement is not simply about departure and arrival; it is about the unfolding experience between places. The journey itself shapes our understanding, offering a continuous state of becoming rather than a fixed destination.

Throughout history, different cultures have used walking as a means of reflection, pilgrimage, protest, storytelling, and ritual. This workshop will incorporate various walking practices, including:

• Contemplative walking, where the focus is on presence and attunement to the surroundings.
• Conversational walking, using movement as a catalyst for exchange and reflection.
• Drifting (dérive), a practice from the Situationist tradition that embraces spontaneous exploration of landscapes.
• Ritual walking, where walking takes on symbolic meaning, connecting the individual to place, time, and history.

Prior to the workshop, a shared reading list will provide a common foundation in key ecological concepts, resilience theories, and sustainability strategies, serving as a guide for our unfolding exploration.

The Walk: Simrishamn to Gylleboverket Participants will begin their journey in Simrishamn and walk to Gylleboverket, setting up camps along the way. The walk will take place over the course of two days, covering a distance of approximately 10 km per day, depending on the route and group pace. The terrain will vary between coastal paths, forest trails, and open countryside. We will take breaks for meals, reflection, and site-specific activities, allowing time to engage with the landscape and each other.

Camping will be an integral part of the experience. The ability to carry necessary supplies while maintaining lightness and mobility will be key to the experience. Participants should be prepared for all weather conditions and bring a spirit of resilience and adaptability.

Practicalities and Preparation

The workshop is aimed at 20 participants and takes place on September 4–6, 2025. Transportation from/to Malmö is included.

Food

All meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—will be provided. A communal meal will be prepared daily, and participants will also assemble packed lunches for the walking journey. 

What to Bring

Participants must be prepared to use their bodies as their primary mode of travel. We will be walking for extended periods. However, we acknowledge and welcome different physical abilities. Participants are encouraged to support one another, including sharing the load of luggage or offering assistance along the way, fostering a collaborative and inclusive walking experience.

Please bring:

• Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing (layers recommended)
• Walking shoes or hiking boots
• Waterproof jacket and trousers
• A backpack to carry personal items
• Reusable water bottle
• Light sleeping bag and mat
• Personal tent.
• Notebook and pen for reflections
• Snacks (breakfast, lunch, dinner will be provided)
• Headlamp or flashlight

Being on the move requires adaptability, openness, and an awareness of our bodily capacities. We encourage participants to consider their personal walking habits, the rhythms of movement, and how walking can function as an artistic and philosophical practice.

Participation Fee

The selected applicants are asked to pay a fee of 600 SEK (around 55 €) to cover the full board during the workshop.

It is also possible to apply for the workshop as a PhD course of 3 ECTS, which includes four seminars in Inter Arts Center Malmö in addition to the workshop. The dates and description of the course are the following:

Organised jointly by Agenda 2030 Graduate School (Lund University), Artistic Research (Malmö Theatre Academy, Lund University), and Gylleboverket a platform for art and resilience located in the Scania countryside, this course delves into the convergence of interdisciplinary practices and existential sustainability, rooted in a profound understanding of corporality, imagination, being-with, and an exploration towards an extended ecological self.

For its fourth edition, the Ecocamp transforms into a nomadic experience. During the three days walking, travelling, and traversing landscapes will be central to our practice, fostering new connections on the move and reflecting on human nature as one of migration, transition, and relational encounters. Both collaborative and solitary moments on the journey will foster reflection, dialogue, and creative engagement with ecology, interspecies relations, and sustainable futures. 

Prior to the workshop, seminars will provide a foundational understanding of key ecological concepts, resilience theories, and sustainability principles, complemented by an overview of the shared curriculum. Through active involvement in the workshop and seminars, participants will develop the ability to critically reflect on themes such as materiality, site and non-site, land, and permaculture, enriching their understanding and application of these concepts in their respective fields of practice and research.
