Over two hundred people applied for the two postgraduate positions and the jury* conducted fifty interviews before choosing Yael Bartana and Bouchra Khalili.
Yael Bartana is known for her political projects and has participated in a wide range of art exhibitions at institutions such as MoMA, Tate Modern and Guggenheim (New York). Bouchra Khalili works with art projects where she often offers a platform and voice to people made invisible in ongoing national crises. She has had separate exhibitions at MoMA, Palais de Tokyo and MACBA, among other places.
-Bartana and Khalili are among the world's most noted artists right now. It is truly wonderful that they have chosen to deepen their artistic knowledge and their questions by becoming PhD students at Malmö Art Academy, says Gertrud Sandqvist, Prefect.
