Congratulations to the Beckers Art Award, how will you invest the grant?
-Thank you. I will invest all of my scholarship into the production of my works. My work is the result of research and experiment therefore it often involves various uses of technical equipment. As with any experiment you venture into the unknown so to have a good budget always helps.
What does a grant like this mean in terms of creativity?
-It means a lot of freedom. The financial aspect helps to create something at a bigger scale which obviously forces the artist to "think bigger" in creative terms. But the space where the project happens is what stimulates the creativity the most. I don't like to show the same work twice, not even similar ones.
What is it about electronic engineering that inspires you into making art?
-I think that everything is connected, I don't think of the two separately. Science is very creative and is triggered by ideas or concepts that develop into hypotheses. The essence of any kind of engineering is to understand different mechanisms and create new ones or expand the ones that exist. It's constantly evolving. With art I like to explore different mediums to convey this sense of adaption as the use of technology, for creative purposes, naturally introduces an opportunity to construct new aesthetic forms in response to new stimuli.
A part of the award is a solo exhibition at Färgfabriken, what will you show and when?
-The exhibition takes place at the end of January and at the moment I can just say that my work is inspired by the site where the exhibition takes place and lighthouses. I always work with the site or setting so for me having such a large space to show my work is really exciting.
